My name is Laura Emanuel.
I am currently undertaking a Masters of Teaching (Primary).
I have previously completed a Bachelor of Inclusive Education and Disability Studies. These studies have changed my perception on people and their abilities, I have come to realise that students are a lot more capable than you may think at first glance; you just need to set up a scaffold for them to be able to demonstrate it. I have worked as a teacher aide for 2 ½ years in a school for specific purposes that caters for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, as well as being employed as a disability support worker. This work has been an invaluable experience for me as it has changed many aspects of my life, especially my patience and enabled me gain skills that I will carry through with me during my career.
I am now focusing on becoming to qualified teacher as I feel I have a lot more to offer to students, especially those with special needs.
I have created this blog as a starting point to see what is currently out there in terms of resources as well as share my ideas. My main focus of this blog will be to share my experiences in the classroom, as well as my ideas and thoughts.
I feel it is important that I am keeping up to date with what is happening in the digital world. The generation of students coming through schools at the moment are all digital natives, in order to be an effective teacher and facilitator, it is essential that I know what is out there and how to use it.
